When I was done, Fritz nodded and so
Did I, and the girls nodded, the cretin
Nodded and also the goniffs,
And we all resembled those
Plastic bar birds, pecking at their drinks.
Then Olive Oil took me upstairs
And her stomach looked
Like an aerial view of the jungle
From the top of boot hill, green
Lichen fringes aronnd red swatches
Where the planes dropped chemicals
To clear a path for the highway
That never showed up. Back downstairs
The drinks would always be free, and
On the jukebox they were playing my song.
It was there right between Frankie "Half Pint"
Jaxon and the Boswell Sisters, "I Got a
Girl Just Like a Rock Inside my Shoe."
